Dearest Value Creator!
On this day in 2018, we were hosting about 12 entrepreneurs for the first āBusiness Connectā event, which was meant to help them improve their businesses.
But honestly, I remember that day more as we were starting a journey we were not sure how long it would last. At least, I knew I wasnāt. For someone who had tried her hands at different things in my creative exploration and seen some of them not last long, there was a part of my heart that was wondering if this was another creative interest that would probably fade away with time. But instead of letting the fear of not being able to continue hold me back, I decided to focus on that moment. Thanks to the amazing support of friends and loved ones some of whom decided to company with me in the work. The decision was simple: Even if this didnāt last, I would have at least known I tried my best and was true to my heart. We started as a project, not even sure we would have what it takes to become a full organization.
7 years later, we are still here.
We did become a full-fledged organization and in the last 2555 days, we have supported over 5000 people in their journey of becoming enterprising individuals and building sustainable businesses. We have partnered with several organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. We have reached out to people across all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria and even reached some countries in Africa. We have helped entrepreneurs grow their businesses from their seed-nature into thriving oaks (P.S. Thatās the intention of our name!š). We have evolved in several ways, from our programs and offerings to our structure and leadership, even to our overall mission. We have braved several odds that could have frustrated our mission and continued going despite the odds.
7 years later, we are still here.
But we couldnāt have been without the support of several people who have given their time, money, energy, dedication, and many other forms of resources into this.
Looking back, I realized a mistake in my thinking that day 7 years ago. I thought I had to be the one who ensures this has continuity. I couldnāt. But with the combined strength and commitment of many, we could. We, not I. I thought the full responsibility had to be on me. it didnāt. It could be shared.
And thatās what I will be leaving you with in this note.
That as you continue to build, remember when itās āweā, you have a lot more chances of braving the odds and being able to continue going despite all.
We, not I. That's what ONE Foundation has been fortunate to have. And that's why Iām dedicating this 7th year anniversary to the people who have made all this possible. Our donors who continue to give tirelessly. Our board on whose wisdom, strength, and resources, we have continued to fly. Our partners, mentors, and facilitators who continue to share their time and resources with us. Our amazing amazing team over the years! These in particular have invested their blood and sweat into this!
And to you, our community who continue to cheer us on and support us one way or the other.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! š¤
Happy 7th anniversary to us! š„š
